Its Birthday Card Tuesday…. Only joking as I said yesterday this week its all about That Thing You Did stamp set.
Todays project is a 3d project but its really simple and I really had fun making it.
I just love the petite cafe gift bags you can get because they are great for putting little gifts in especially edible ones and they are so fun and easy to decorate.
So to decorate this one I used Chocolate Chip ink and repeatedly stamped the But Not In A Creepy Way stamp all the way down the bag. Then I took a piece of Cucumber Crush and a piece of Watermelon Wonder envelope paper and stuck them together then notched each end to make a banner shape. With that done I wound some Whisper White Baker’s Twine round the middle a couple of times. For the center piece I stamped You’re On My Mind in Mint Macaroon ink on some Whisper white and rounded the corners with the corner rounder and stuck some pearls on two of the corners. The whole thing is stuck to the bag using dimensionals just to give it a bit more lift.
I am really pleased with the way this project came out. It is one of those projects where I just sat and messed around till I was happy with it. Usually I plan out exactly what I am going to make and find it difficult just to come up with something at random and have to peruse pinterest for inspiration, but not this one. There may already be similar stuff out there but even so I am happy to be making stuff again.
So for a couple of months I took some time out from my craft blog as I was getting a little stressed with work and learning to drive along with a multitude of other things that I wont bore you with. Needless to say my crafting suffered because of this and I just lost interest in posting all together but I think I have finally got my mojo back and I am ready to start posting again and to kick things off I have to decided to do a post every day this week all based around one single stamp set. After that things will go back to my three times a week schedule but I will be posting what every project I feel like on those day rather than trying to force a particular theme out like always birthday card this day and a 3d project this day.
So the stamp set I will be showcasing is the That Thing You Did” and the card that I made is cased right out of the catty on page 97 where you can find the stamp set, and yes I have made all three of these and over the next few days I will describe how I made each one. The cards are so cool looking I thought each one deserved its own post.
Up first is the Hello Honey vintage card.
I think this card is the one I found most tricky due to that lovely white center piece. I had no idea how to cut that the right shape. I am sure there is some easy way of doing but to start with I actually drew on the card base to figure out how wide I wanted it and the angle I wanted it then I cut a piece of whisper white to fit the desired shape that I drew out.
I then stamped on the white it in hello honey. Now in the catty that colour looks really bright but in reality it is a little darker. Thats professional photography for you. The blue used on this card is Lost Lagoon and I love this colour but this also looks darker than the catty version, maybe I’m just using too much ink? Anyway the card is really easy after this point so give it a go with your favourite colours and let me know how it turns out.
Did everyone check out our awesome blog hop yesterday? If you didn’t you should as there were some amazing projects and videos from lots of wonderful demonstrators.
I would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who did visit yesterday and left comments, I really appreciated the feedback and it’s nice to have people appreciate the effort gone into the things I make.
The overall sketch was really simple so I decided to keep mine simple too.
I love the Butterfly Basics stamp set you can use it in so many different ways and it has some lovely stamps that make great backgrounds and combine that with the thinlits and you can make some really beautiful cards. The idea for this card came when I was flipping through a monthly magazine us demonstrators receive. There was an example project that caught my eye that used the same colours as above. The original card used a heart stamp for the background, the tag on that card was positioned on the bottom right and the sentiment was that from Perfect Pennants. The original card was meant to show off the kissing technique but what I really liked about it was the color combination. I think thats the most fun part trying different color combinations to see what works and which colours complement each other.
Thats it from me today enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Hi and welcome to a Pootler’s Blog Hop. On this blog hope we will be showcasing some of the gorgeous new products from the new annual catalog that launched on 2nd of June. When you’re done perusing my site click on the button at the bottom of the post to head to the next post in the hop.
One of my favorite products out of the new catalog has been the I Think You’re Great stamp set and to show how fab it is I have created a little mini card collection to display its versatility. The stamp set consist of 5 stamps; three uniquely shaped sentiment stamps and 2 patterned stamps and what’s interesting about this stamp set is that it was designed with the kissing technique in mind. What that means is you take your sentiment ink it up and then press it to one of the patterned stamps to create a unique effect when you stamp your sentiment. This technique has been around for a long time so it’s nice to see new unique stamps being inspired by it.
To show off this wonderful stamp set I have created four 4×4 cards. I chose this size as it was perfect size to get out of a 12×12 piece of whisper white card stock. I could of gone for 3×3 but I thought it may have been too small for what I wanted to show.
So for the first card I started off simple and stamped one of the patterned stamps inked in Delightful Dijion straight onto the whisper white card stock. I then layered two strips of Tip Top Taupe envelope paper over the stamped image, I wanted to show of the different patterns on each side. For the sentiment I inked it in Cucumber Crush and just fussy cut it out and mounted on top of the strips of envelope paper using a dimensional.
Another simple card for you again. This time I have used a piece of Tip Top Taupe card stock and stamped that other patterned stamp in the center using Tip Top Taupe ink. I then wrapped some white baker’s twine round the middle of the card stock then mounded this to the white base using dimensional. To finish the card off I added a Hi cloud stamped in Mint Macaron.
For this next card I used so Cucumber Crush card stock and a piece of Cherry On Top DSP then stamped the I think You’re Great stamp in Watermelon Wonder and applied the kissing technique to this stamp using one of the patterned stamps. I was trying to go for a unique edge effect with the Cherry On Top DSP but I think I covered it up to much with the sentiment.
This final card is one of my favorites. I have layered a piece of the stripy Tip Top Taupe Envelope paper on top of some Watermelon Wonder card stock and stuck this to the base card. I then used some white baker’s twine to offset the sentiment that was stamped in Watermelon Wonder, I also used the kissing technique on this stamp too. After this point I still felt the card was missing something so I added a few flowers punched from the left over Watermelon Wonder card stock and added some rhinestones to their centers.
This stamp set I just one of the fabulous new stamps available in the new annual catalog and you can bet I will find ways of combining it with other stamps and projects so be sure to come back some time. Let me know in the comments which card design was your favorite.
Thanks for stopping by, come back again soon and don’t forget to check out the next blog post in the hop.
Hi and welcome to this weeks Freshly Made Sketches blog post. This week is special as it falls on Father’s Day here in the Uk so Happy Fathers Day to Every Dad in the world.
As it is father’s Day I went and made a Father’s Day card for the occasion, based on this sketch below.
I really like the simplicity of this card layout and as simplistic cards are my favourite I really enjoyed this weeks challenge.
As you can see from the pic I started with a white card base and added a layer of Night Of Navy. I really like this colour and definitely don’t use it enough. Next I took a piece of Old Olive and applied Stylish Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to it then mounted it on top of the Night Of Navy using dimensionals. For the sentiment I used one from the Guy Greetings stamp set and stamped it in Night Of Navy ink and popped this up with dimensionals. The spanner image is also from Guy Greetings and this too was stamped in wait for it Night of Navy (think I’m going for a record of how many times I can say Night Of Navy in one post), I then stuck some Whisper White baker’s twine to the back of it and placed it over the top of a small piece of Night Of Navy and stuck this to the card front and that it nice and simple.
The oval in the middle kind of threw me off at first but after looking at other poles designs I noticed some had done away with it and put a different shape altogether so knowing that it made things a little easier. Now father’s day is next sunday so I decided to dedicate this sketch to a father’s day card.
Now I only have one stamp set dedicated to men and that is Guy Greeting its a really versatile stamp set as it has a greeting for every occasion and some cool stamps in the for of an old car, a set of tools, soom hats and some greetings to go with it. Now for my card I chose the car and the greeting to a classic. Take a look below.
This design maybe a little too far from the original design but that’s fine. I tend to use freshly made sketches more for inspiration than to actually win the challenge. The base of the card is chocolate chip and I have used the stripes embossing folder on it, then layered a piece of basic black and whisper white over the top. The father stamp is also from Guy Greetings and it was stamped in chocolate chip ink. I love how detailed that clasic car looks and it’s from a stamp! Its crazy how much detail they can put into these pieces of rubber.
I really like the style of this sketch and as a result I actually spend less time agonising over what to put on my card this week. It also helped that I had just sorted through my cardstock which made it easier to pick out a colour for my card base. I also knew exactly which stamp set that I wanted to use, which is cheerful critters. I have this stamp set for a while but had no idea what to use it on till now.
So as you can see I used bermuda bay cardstock as the base and layered this with whisper white cardstock and then stuck two strips of washi tape a little lower than the center of the card. I stamped the rabbit in tuxedo black and coloured in using strawberry slush, smoky slate, and little crisp cantaloupe on the ears. This was then stuck to some more bermuda bay cardstock and then mounted onto the front of the card with dimensionals.
I love the overall look of the card and I just love the colours, what are some of your favourite colour combinations?
