Cube Creatures

Now normally I do 3d projects on a Friday but I am bringing this one a little late as I had one heck of a bad day yesterday but everythings better today, amazing how a good nights sleep can put things in perspective.

As promised this week I am bringing you the 3D project I was meant to show last week.

The project is based on this lovely paper craft duck dice I found. You can find the original print out here.

So after sitting and making these I thought ” I can make this out of SU products but do different animals.” So that is what I did.

Aren’t they cute?

These little boxes actually open on the top so things can be put inside of them but only small things as they are only 1 1/2 inches high and wide. For the noses I just cut small triangles by hand and for the bellies I used half a circle punched using a 1 3/8″ circle punch.

To make them I started with a piece of cardstock measuring 6 1/2 by 5 3/8 and scored on the long side at 1/12″, 3″, 4 1/2, 6. Then score on the short side at 3/8,1 7/8, 3 3/8 and 4 7/8. Now here is the tricky bit so I have provided a few pictures on where to cut (there is probably an easier way to do this).

I could of done part scoring for some of the tabs but numbers confuses me and I prefer to do things by eye. Don’t forget to notch those tabs. I then did the bellies and eyes before the gluing stage and don’t put any glue on the tabs shown below unless you don’t want the box to open again.

This little box could also be adapted for a Christmas advent countdown with numbers on the front or made larger to put children’s gifts in. Have fun with it.

Thanks for stopping by, come back soon.
